Mbabane – Eswatini Medical Christian University (EMCU) Vice Chancellor Paul Seung-Hun Yang has filed an urgent application in the Industrial Court to compel the institution to pay his E62,000 April salary and restore his workplace access.
The application, filed on April 27, 2026, follows allegations that the university breached a December 2025 court order and an open-court undertaking to maintain the status quo while contempt proceedings remain pending. Yang argues that the non-payment of his salary, which was due on April 20, is a deliberate attempt to marginalize him and render his position untenable.
In a founding affidavit, Yang detailed a coordinated effort by university officials to exclude him from the campus. On April 14, the university’s Bursar, Alex Ngwenya, reportedly issued written instructions to Fidelity Security Services to deny the Vice Chancellor access to the premises.
However, the security firm declined to enforce the directive. In a letter dated April 16, Fidelity Branch Manager Patricia Hlope stated that the firm would continue to recognize the existing court order confirming Yang’s employment until provided with a formal board resolution or a superseding legal order.
“It is remarkable that Fidelity, a private security company, has shown greater respect for the authority of this Honourable Court than the Respondents themselves,” Yang stated in his court papers.
The Vice Chancellor is seeking an order directing the university, its Council Chairman Boy Bongani Dlamini, and Registrar Sebenta Menon to pay his outstanding April salary and all future installments on time. He is also asking the court to compel the immediate withdrawal of any instructions restricting his access to university facilities, systems, and resources.
Yang’s legal team from Magagula & Hlophe Attorneys argued that the matter is of extreme urgency due to the “immediate and continuing financial prejudice” their client faces. They contend that the university’s actions constitute a wilful and mala fide violation of a subsisting court mandate.
