Taiwan president to avoid tense Middle East airspace on Eswatini trip

The Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China has condemned the cancellation of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te’s planned visit to Eswatini, describing it as the result of “coordinated coercion.”

In a brief statement, IPAC alleged that China pressured African countries to block Lai’s flight path, calling it an attempt to further isolate Taiwan and extend control over international airspace.

The alliance expressed solidarity with Lai and the people of Taiwan, stating that democratic leaders must be free to engage globally without interference.

“It is not for Beijing to determine the foreign policy of other countries,” the statement read.
