Mbabane – Over 200 households in Motsane Inkhundla are set to benefit from road rehabilitation projects after the government approved new road construction at Phalamende community under Mpolonjeni Chieftdom and KaManyisa community within Kupheleni Chieftdom.

Motsane Member of Parliament Wilton Nkambule said the projects show government’s commitment to grassroots development and responsiveness to community needs.

Nkambule spoke during the official handover of the contractor, Ant Group, to the two communities on Wednesday. The contractor was introduced through the Microprojects Unit.

He said the construction of the two roads was a direct response to requests submitted by residents through inkhundla structures in 2024.

Nkambule expressed appreciation to government for continuing to roll out infrastructure projects despite limited national resources and called on residents to fully support the contractor to ensure timely completion of the works.

“Our government adopted the Nkwe mandate, and the handover of the contractor is proof that government listens and responds to the needs of the people,” said Nkambule.

He explained that following submissions by residents, inkhundla leadership engaged the Microprojects Unit, which led to approval of funding and deployment of the contractor to the communities.

Solomon Hlophe, KaManyisa project chairman welcomed the project, saying the poor state of the road had previously caused serious hardship for residents.

Hlophe added that the persistent rains worsened the situation, leaving vehicles unable to reach homesteads and people stranded. He noted the road was vital for local commerce and food security, as residents depended on spaza shops for essential supplies that were cut off due to inaccessibility.

Nkambule urged residents to maintain unity and cooperation during the construction period and encouraged other communities within Motsane Inkhundla to submit development proposals through the proper channels.

He warned that some communities missed out on development projects due to not following the required procedures, particularly the formal submission of requests to inkhundla offices.
