Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo wants his future settled by 1 January as talks over a potential transfer gather pace during the festive period.
The Ghana international is at the centre of intense interest from several Premier League clubs, with Manchester City currently leading the race after opening formal discussions with Bournemouth. The 25 year old has a £65 million release clause in his contract, which remains active until 10 January, and sources close to the player say he is keen to avoid a prolonged transfer saga.
BBC Sport reported last week that City’s pursuit is at an advanced stage following meetings between Semenyo’s representatives and officials at the Etihad Stadium. Further talks are expected within the next 48 hours as all parties attempt to reach an agreement before the new year.
While City have moved quickest, Semenyo’s situation remains unresolved. Liverpool are still monitoring developments and may step up their interest following Alexander Isak’s injury. Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have also made enquiries about the attacker, who has impressed with his performances on the south coast.
At present, City are the only club to have held direct club to club discussions with Bournemouth. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has strong ties with the Cherries from his time at the Vitality Stadium, a factor that could yet influence negotiations once the January transfer window opens.
Bournemouth are understood to prefer keeping Semenyo for their opening two fixtures of 2026, away to Arsenal on 3 January and at home to Tottenham four days later, before considering a sale. The club remain mindful of his growing value as he approaches his 26th birthday on 7 January.
Semenyo is believed to be weighing his options carefully, focusing on a project that offers a realistic chance of competing for major trophies over the long term. Family considerations and stability are also playing a role in his thinking, as he pushes for a swift resolution.
