Mbabane – A stray crocodile that had been terrorising the Manjengeni community under Mhlangatane Inkhundla was safely captured this morning by rangers from Hlane Royal National Park.
The reptile was seized during an early morning operation after reports that it had been attacking livestock and posing a serious threat to residents, particularly children who frequent a local dam.
Community members had raised alarm over the crocodile’s presence, saying its continued movement around the dam had created fear and disrupted daily activities, including fetching water and herding animals.
Nhlane Royal National Park senior ranger Mpendulo Gumedze said the swift intervention was aimed at preventing possible loss of life, noting that summer marks peak feeding season for crocodiles.
“During this period crocodiles are more aggressive as they search for food, which often brings them closer to human settlements,” said Gumedze. “We urge members of the public to immediately report any sightings so that authorities can respond before incidents occur.”
The crocodile was removed from the area and relocated to a safer habitat away from communities.
