Mbabane – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini met South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, in Ezulwini this morning for talks centred on strengthening power cooperation between the two neighbouring states.
The courtesy visit brought together senior officials from both countries, including Eswatini’s Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, HRH Prince Lonkhokhela, members of the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) board, the utility’s Managing Director, and South Africa’s Chargé d’Affaires to Eswatini, Dr Wouter Zaayman.
The meeting explored ongoing electricity supply arrangements and future partnerships aimed at securing stable and affordable energy for Eswatini. Government said the discussions were driven by the country’s need to bolster energy security to support industrial growth, job creation and broader socio-economic development.

The Prime Minister welcomed South Africa’s continued supply of electricity to Eswatini, noting that the assistance has remained consistent even during periods when South Africa’s grid was under strain. He also acknowledged Dr Ramokgopa’s role in stabilising South Africa’s power sector, where load shedding has largely subsided and Eskom has progressed through its unbundling process.
Both sides discussed potential joint power-generation projects that could benefit citizens and industries across the two countries. The government said such cooperation would build on the countries’ long-standing historical ties, economic links and shared regional interests.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for Eswatini to extend congratulations to South Africa for successfully hosting the recent G20 Summit, marking the first time the gathering was held on African soil.
