Manzini – The Municipal Council of Manzini has reported key progress in infrastructure projects aimed at improving public facilities and community services, while also preparing for major developments scheduled for implementation in 2025/26 and 2026/27. This is according to the Annual Accountability Report and remarks shared during the Manzini City Annual General Meeting.

Among the achievements recorded, Phase II of the Autism Centre construction was completed. The expansion now enters its defects liability stage and is expected to improve access to therapeutic services for people with autism. The Council also finalised relocation and reconstruction of the pound facility to a site far from residential homes. Fencing, electricity, water connection and a loading ramp were completed, bringing relief to affected communities.

Additionally, the municipality concluded preparatory work on the upgrading of the Manzini Bus Rank and Manzini Mall precinct, which include key components such as vending shelters and bulk infrastructure services within the Central Business District. The CEO said consultations with transport industry stakeholders have been ongoing, and works for a temporary pick-up terminal commenced as the project advances.

Despite increased rainfall during the year, the municipality continued maintaining and developing infrastructure. Focus was also placed on waste management, which has required additional effort due to illegal dumping and littering. The CEO appealed to residents and businesses to help protect the urban environment and promote sustainability.

While several major projects remained in early phases, the municipality noted that rollout will accelerate in upcoming financial years. The CEO of Mazini Council, Dr. Lungile Dlamini expressed gratitude to partners who played key roles in supporting service delivery, including funding organisations, construction companies, volunteers and social health partners.

Efforts to boost stakeholder partnerships, improve public communication and uphold service standards were at the centre of the Municipal Council of Manzini’s operations during the 2024/25 reporting period. The municipality says these engagements ensured progress in difficult conditions, while preparing for more transformation in the coming years.

Dr. Dlamini, addressing the stakeholders during the city’s AGM, expressed appreciation for their involvement and partnership. She said the municipality always looks forward to the AGM as a platform to present results and account to citizens, ratepayers, government and other stakeholders.

Public communication was maintained through community meetings, social media platforms, press updates and the 24-hour call centre. The customer service system handled over 2,400 requests, which the municipality says helped maintain accountability to residents despite operational challenges.
