Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens of all faiths following a statement by the United States on religious freedom.
In a press release issued on Saturday, November 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja said Nigeria remains determined to combat violent extremism fueled by special interests across West Africa and the Sahel region.
The government expressed mourning for victims of violent attacks and paid tribute to the nation’s armed forces for their ongoing efforts against extremist groups.
The statement also noted Nigeria’s dedication to celebrating its diversity as a national strength. “Nigeria is a God-fearing country where we respect faith, tolerance, diversity and inclusion, in concurrence with the rules-based international order,” the release read.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the United States as a close ally and reaffirmed Nigeria’s focus on partnerships with countries committed to peace, stability, freedom, and democracy under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
