LOZITHA – His Majesty King Mswati III has called for meaningful reforms at the United Nations and encouraged deeper cooperation with Russia and Kuwait during a ceremony at Lozitha Royal Palace yesterday.
The King received letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Eswatini, Vladimir Nikolaevich Tararov, and the newly appointed Ambassador of Kuwait, Salem Rashed Al-Shebli. The ceremony was marked by a downpour, regarded culturally as a blessing.
King Mswati said the UN, established in 1945 to prevent global conflicts and maintain peace, requires urgent reforms to reflect contemporary global realities. He expressed hope that Russia will represent Africa’s aspirations at the UN, particularly the call for a permanent African seat, while also monitoring the situation in Russia and Ukraine for a lasting resolution.
The Monarch underscored the importance of continued bilateral relations with Russia, which spans 26 years, citing educational scholarships for Eswatini students and Russia’s broader efforts to support African development through initiatives such as the Russia-Africa Summit. He also urged the ambassador to promote Russian investment in Eswatini to support job creation, tourism, and economic growth.
King Mswati also welcomed Kuwait’s ambassador, noting the country’s contributions to Eswatini’s infrastructure development, including the modern road network. The King expressed optimism that both partnerships will strengthen Eswatini’s development and bilateral cooperation.
The King concluded by requesting that personal greetings be conveyed to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
