Maseru – The Government of Lesotho has signed two key Southern African Development Community (SADC) protocols, signalling its continued commitment to regional cooperation and inclusive growth.

The signing ceremony, held this morning, marked Lesotho’s endorsement of the SADC Protocol on Statistics and the SADC Protocol on Employment and Labour. Both agreements aim to strengthen governance, development planning, and social protection across member states.

The Protocol on Statistics, endorsed by SADC Heads of State in 2021, seeks to harmonise data collection and promote innovation in statistical systems. It establishes a regional framework to ensure that countries produce reliable and timely data to support policy-making and long-term development strategies.

The second agreement, the Protocol on Employment and Labour, adopted in 2023, focuses on promoting decent work and fair labour standards within the region. It advocates for equal employment opportunities for youth, women, persons with disabilities, and migrant workers, while also enhancing social dialogue among member states.
