Mbabane – The Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) approved Bulembu Ministries Swaziland’s new E2.69 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) electricity tariff, representing an average tariff increase of 9.8%.
This decision comes after Bulembu Ministries which is licensed electricity supplier serving the Bulembu community submitted its tariff application to the energy regulator seeking the approval.
This new tariff will apply only to customers supplied by the Bulembu Ministries distribution network and came into effect on October 1, 2025.
According to ESERA, the decision follows a thorough review process in line with its legal mandate.
In terms of Section 5(1)(f) of the Energy Regulatory Act, 2007, read together with Section 32 of the Electricity Act, 2007, ESERA is required to undertake a review of tariffs, prices, and charges before any tariff is implemented.
This review process ensures that electricity prices are fair, cost-reflective, and that consumers are protected while also promoting efficiency and investment in the electricity sector.
The tariff review included a public consultation process as well as detailed technical and economic analysis. Based on this, the new tariff was approved.
ESERA has made the detailed regulatory decision available on its website at www.esera.org.sz.
