New York – His Majesty King Mswati III was among world leaders who gathered in New York yesterday for the 2025 Bloomberg Global Forum, a high-level meeting hosted by Michael Bloomberg at The Plaza Hotel.

The forum convened presidents, chief executives and global influencers from business, government and civil society to address pressing challenges ranging from geopolitical shifts to economic fragmentation and changing power dynamics. This year’s discussions placed special attention on Africa’s role in innovation, investment and infrastructure development in the run-up to the G20 Summit scheduled for November in South Africa.

His Majesty was listed among an influential group of participants that included World Bank President Ajay Banga, Gates Foundation Chair Bill Gates, renowned conservationist Dr Jane Goodall, actor and philanthropist Djimon Hounsou, WNBA star Chiney Ogwumike, Paulson Institute Chairman Henry M Paulson, Alphabet and Google executive Ruth Porat, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, African Development Bank President Dr Sidi Ould Tah, Giants of Africa Co-Founder Masai Ujiri and Macquarie Group CEO Shemara Wikramanayake.

The programme featured plenary sessions, keynotes, roundtables and bilateral meetings designed to strengthen collaboration among governments, multinational companies and non-profit organisations. Central debates explored new strategies for global stability and prosperity, including how to create opportunities for the 1.2 billion young people expected to enter the job market in developing countries over the next decade.

Another session, Building Africa’s Sports and Entertainment Ecosystem, held in partnership with the National Basketball Association and Giants of Africa, examined ways to expand sports infrastructure and attract investment. The discussion brought together government leaders, sports executives and investors to design replicable models aimed at boosting Africa’s economic growth through the creative and sports industries.

Past editions of the Bloomberg Global Forum have drawn leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Apple CEO Tim Cook, cementing its reputation as one of the most influential platforms for international cooperation.
