MBABANE – Dr. Susan Tembo, the World Health Organization representative in Eswatini, has praised the government’s efforts to protect the health of emaSwati through the development of the national Event-Based Surveillance Guidelines.
The guidelines aim to strengthen the country’s health system by integrating early warning mechanisms into national surveillance, allowing authorities to anticipate and respond to emergencies more effectively. Dr. Tembo said the approach treats communities as active participants in safeguarding their own health.
“By integrating EBS into Eswatini’s national surveillance architecture, we are laying the foundation for a more agile, inclusive, and responsive health system. One that not only reacts to emergencies but anticipates them,” she said.
She added that the launch of the guidelines sends a clear message that the health of citizens is a top priority. “No signal, no matter how faint, will go unheard. The World Health Organization stands firmly beside you as a committed partner in this initiative.”
