Mbabane – Tata Motors has returned to the South African passenger car market with the launch of the new Tata Tiago, which is priced from E184 900 and enters as one of the cheapest vehicles in the country.

The hatchback, unveiled this week, is being marketed as a budget-friendly option for city drivers. Prices range from E184 900 for the entry-level 1.2 XM MT to E224 900 for the 1.2 XT AMT, with a more premium XZ model expected to follow. Its main rivals include the Hyundai Grand i10, Kia Picanto, Suzuki Celerio, Renault Kwid and Volkswagen Polo Vivo.

According to Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Distributor CEO Thato Magasa, the Tiago is designed to meet the needs of urban motorists looking for affordability without losing out on safety and comfort.

Two trims are available at launch. The XM comes with a 3.5-inch infotainment system, two speakers, rear parking sensors, central locking, air conditioning, electric windows and a digital instrument cluster. The XT adds a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four speakers, a multifunction steering wheel and a reverse camera. The upcoming XZ will include a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless connectivity, cruise control, push-button start, LED headlights and a high-definition reversing camera.
