MBABANE – A pedestrian was arrested and charged under the Traffic Act for self-endangerment.
Thembizulu Mkhatswa, a male adult of 40 years from Lozitha was charged with the offence of Contravening Section 80 (5) of the Road Traffic Act No. 6 of 2007 as read with section 122 (7) of the same Act.
According to court documents, at upon or about August 9, 2025, at about 0225 hours near KaMthimkhulu, along MR3 public road, Mbabane lane, the said accused: being a pedestrian did wrongfully and unlawfully walk on the said public road in a manner likely to constitute a source of danger to himself or other road users thus contravene the said Act.
The particulars of his case are that:
- He was walking in the middle of the driving lane where a person is not expected to be walking.
- He was walking carelessly on the public road while under the influence of intoxicating liquor as a result endangering himself to other road users.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and paid a E300 fine. Alternatively he faced three months imprisonment.
