MBABANE – An allegedly distraught mother evicted her daughter from home after a recorded assault case.
Gcebile Shongwe laid a charge against Nontobeko Dlamini, her daughter, after a heated family argument turned violent.
The parties appeared at the Mbabane Magistrates Court on Monday over a domestic incident.
According to evidence, the altercation began when Shongwe, the mother, who was reportedly having issues with her husband, decided to sleep in her daughter’s room for three days.
On the day of the incident, Dlamini had left the house, only to return and find that her mother had removed her belongings – including her blankets and clothes – from her room.
Angered by her mother’s actions, Dlamini confronted her, demanding answers.
Instead of a peaceful exchange, the situation escalated, she said, with her mother shouting at her but refusing to explain.
“Don’t tell me anything. This is my home. You do not tell me what to do,” the mother is presumed to have said.
Dlamini pushed her mother away, causing her to fall. These actions prompted Principal Magistrate Fikile Nhlabatsi’s condemnation.
Citing the Bible, Nhlabatsi made reference to the commandment that says, ‘Honor your father and your mother so that your days may be long upon the earth.’
Nhlabatsi ruled that Dlamini’s actions could not be justified and sentenced her to a E5,000 fine or five years imprisonment.
