The Suzuki DZire and Honda Amaze go head-to-head in the compact sedan battle for budget-conscious buyers.

MBABANE – When it comes to budget-friendly motoring for Emaswati, the Suzuki DZire and Honda Amaze are two compact sedans offering similar practicality — but at noticeably different prices.

The Suzuki DZire 1.2 GL+ 5MT is priced at E246 900, while the Honda Amaze 1.2 Comfort MT goes for E274 900. Both come with a four-year/60 000km service plan and a five-year/200 000km warranty. However, that E28 000 price gap could be the deciding factor for many buyers looking for affordability in an economy where every cent counts.

Both sedans are powered by 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engines, with the Honda producing 66kW and 110Nm of torque, and the Suzuki delivering 60kW and 112Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox, though the Suzuki’s transmission feels smoother on the road.

Fuel efficiency tests revealed that the DZire consumed 5.0 litres per 100km compared to the Amaze’s 5.9 litres, giving the Suzuki an edge in long-term running costs — a saving of about E20 for every 100km driven. That difference may look small on paper, but adds up quickly, especially for urban commuters.

While the Honda Amaze boasts a larger boot at 412 litres compared to the DZire’s 378 litres, interior space remains equally tight for three adults in the back on long trips. Both vehicles accommodate five passengers.

Safety ratings give the DZire another tick, earning five NCAP stars compared to the Honda’s four. Standard safety features in both include ABS, stability control, and basic airbags. However, neither model includes advanced driver assistance systems common in higher-end cars.

On the tech side, both vehicles feature touchscreen infotainment systems with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Honda adds a wireless charger, while the Suzuki includes additional USB ports. Each has a reverse camera to assist with parking.
