MBABANE – Six men from Mdzangwini appeared before the Mbabane Magistrates Court on multiple charges linked to a violent assault allegedly carried out during a land dispute on 7 June 2025.
The accused—Nhlanhla Hlophe (47), Mbhekeni Hlophe (35), Celumusa Hlophe (46), Freddie Simelane (48), Nkosephayo Hlophe (20), and Muzi Ngwenya (36)—were jointly charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The court heard they allegedly attacked Vusi Dlamini using stones, spades, and a hammer, leaving him with serious injuries.
Magistrate Qondile Mtetwa presided over the matter, where it was revealed that the attack appeared to be premeditated and executed with the common purpose of causing maximum harm.
Nhlanhla Hlophe faces an additional charge of common assault for allegedly attacking Zodwa Dlamini on the same day.
A related case also involves two more counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. In one, Mkhombiseni Hlophe was reportedly struck on the head with a knobkerrie. In another, Shadrack Mndzebele was said to have been hit on the arm and shoulder with the same weapon.
All six men were granted bail of E1,500 each under strict conditions. They are to remain in custody until 2 August and are expected back in court on 18 September 2025. Bail terms prohibit them from contacting crown witnesses, committing further offences, or missing any future court dates.
