LOBAMBA – Members of the Senate were taken through a hands-on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Governance Training on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, during a session organised by the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) in partnership with the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP).
The workshop, which follows a similar session held for Members of Parliament earlier this year, forms part of ongoing efforts to familiarise Eswatini’s political leadership with emerging technologies and their role in enhancing public sector performance.
The agenda covered a wide range of topics, including the transformation of public service through AI, introduction to tools like ChatGPT and NotebookLM, AI prompt engineering, and strategic roadmaps for implementing AI solutions in government operations. Senators also explored ethical considerations and engaged in practical demonstrations of AI capabilities.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, a representative said the training aligns with the broader national push to develop a formal AI strategy and prepare for the Fourth and Fifth Industrial Revolutions. Previous initiatives by the ministry include the 2024 AI in Davava gathering and the 2025 Youth Summit on AI and Digital Transformation.
Senate President Lindiwe T. Dlamini told colleagues that parliament must become “AI-ready” if it is to remain effective in the modern era. She encouraged senators to embrace the training fully, while cautioning that AI should complement—rather than replace—human decision-making.
She also echoed His Majesty’s call for 2025 to be a year of transformation and said artificial intelligence would play a vital role across key sectors such as health, education, and governance.
The training programme continues with a second-day session focused on the practical implementation of AI in the public sector.
