Mbabane: When church leaders met with government on the way forward regarding the resumption of church services, they already had it in mind to adhere to all the rules which come with meeting in one place in a bid to contain the continuous spread of the deadly coronavirus.
These include the washing of hands with soap and running water as well as using sanitizers in the absence of the former.
This was revealed by Pastor Geoffrey Kyalo of Victory Celebration Embassy in Mbabane. “We have had it in mind to purchase sanitizers and masks which will be distributed to individual members,” said the man of God.
Kyalo said it is absolutely imperative for the church to assume a leadership role during this period which is hard hit by COVID-19, adding that a grave mistake that governments have made globally is to ignore God’s role. “COVID-19 is not just physical warfare, but spiritual, which is an aspect that should be incorporated as a matter of obligation,” said the man of the cloth, adding that if success and prosperity should be attained in fighting the virus the church should play a key role.
On the possibility of singing while wearing masks, he said it is not a question of singing from the mouth but from the heart, which he confessed to be something that carnal people cannot comprehend.
On whether or not it was right for the government to ease the regulations in terms of allowing churches to meet, Pastor Kyalo said he would sound spiritual but he saw no best way out of the situation which the country is faced with. He went on to say that he could only pray that readers of this article would be given divine understanding from above.
Amid reports that churches do not pay taxes and contribute to the country’s economy, Kyalo said churches have come out to say their operations are often misinterpreted.
The man of the cloth said part of their mandate as the church is to reach out to the needy and lend a helping hand, which comes in the form of food donations, clothing, scholarships and orphanages, to name but only a few, adding that in that way they were paying taxes albeit indirectly.
The follower of Omni Potent God said there is much to be celebrated about the modern church instead of whining and mourning about what they are not doing, mentioning that scholarships that have been awarded by the collective church over a long period of time cannot go unnoticed. He said as a result they have contributed to the stable economy of the country as most of those who have come under the care of the church have gone on to hold high positions in corporate places and thus contributed immensely to the growth of the economy.
The position on the pastor comes in the wake of government’s ruling that churches can now assemble albeit in numbers of seventy (70) and conduct their services all with the careful observing of the government’s COVID-19 regulations which stipulate that groups of people should observe social distancing, with ample spaces between each other. He said it is incumbent for the church to stand during this time with reports of abuse including domestic violence which has come as a result of people staying together in observance of government’s regulations
