Police seize illegal guns, dagga and stolen cattle

A week-long police operation across several areas has resulted in multiple arrests for illegal firearms, drugs, fraud and violent crimes, according to the Royal Eswatini Police Service.

Between 10 and 17 July, officers made key arrests in Lomahasha, Big Bend, Siteki, Siphofaneni, Malkerns, Hluthi and Manzini, recovering dangerous weapons and stolen property.

In Lomahasha, two young men aged 25 and 23 from Matfuntini and Mozambique were taken into custody after police found them with 15 live pistol rounds at a house in the Matfuntini area.

Big Bend officers arrested a 20-year-old Bulunga resident in connection with the murder of a 44-year-old Mpolonjeni man, who was found unconscious with a severe wound behind his ear inside the Big Bend Correctional fields. Still in Big Bend, a 45-year-old man from Mangwini was found with a homemade 12-bore shotgun and arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm.

In Siteki, a 64-year-old man from Malindza was arrested after police seized dagga weighing 96 kilograms at his home.

Stock theft investigators in Siphofaneni arrested a 26-year-old man from Lukhetseni, accused of stealing four cattle valued at E45,000 from grazing fields at Gucuka.

An attempted murder incident in Malkerns saw two suspects aged 36 and 33 from Mhlaleni being arrested after allegedly stabbing a 49-year-old Luyengo man multiple times on the head and hands with a spear near the Luyengo Telephone exchange.

Police in Hluthi picked up a 40-year-old man from Mtubatuba, South Africa, after they found him in possession of a Girsa 9mm pistol and 18 live rounds without proper documentation at Mbava.

In Manzini, two 24-year-old men from Masekwane and Moneni were arrested for fraud following a case where a 44-year-old Ngwane Park woman lost E36,000 from her Standard Bank account through fraudulent transactions.
