MBABANE – People living with HIV across Eswatini are now receiving a one-month supply of antiretroviral (ARV) medication instead of the usual three-month refill due to procurement delays, according to the Ministry of Health and the National Emergency Response Council on HIV and AIDS (NERCHA).
The development has sparked concern among treatment recipients, prompting NERCHA and the ministry to issue a joint statement on Monday, assuring the public that there is no stockout of ARVs in the country.
Authorities say the temporary dispensing adjustment is a result of disruptions in the ARV supply chain, which have delayed deliveries and affected the regular distribution cycle. To manage the available stock and ensure access for all, the health sector has implemented a contingency plan that allows for monthly supplies to be issued until the situation stabilises.
NERCHA has appealed to the public not to panic, stating that the measure is temporary and meant to guarantee continued treatment access for all clients. Officials also warned against misinformation and urged citizens to seek accurate updates through official communication channels.
The Ministry of Health and NERCHA say they remain fully engaged in resolving the supply chain issues and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
