The Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) will carry out a series of planned power outages across the country on Wednesday, 28 May 2025, to allow for routine maintenance and construction work on the national grid.
According to the schedule released by EEC, affected areas include residential, industrial, and rural communities in almost all four regions of the kingdom. Power cuts are expected to start at 9:00 am and last until 4:00 pm.
In Malkerns, the outage will affect Phondo Royal Residence, Green Valley, Brookside Lodge, Nokwane Army Headquarters, Mdoni Estate, and Rainbirds Chalets. In Hluti, part of Ndunayithini will be impacted due to ongoing construction projects. Lavumisa residents will also experience a blackout as reconductoring work continues in the area.
Mpaka, Manyeveni, and Lubhuku in the Siteki region will be affected by maintenance work, as will Njojane and Khuphuka. In the capital, Mbabane, areas such as Pine Valley, KaMntshawe, Malgwane, Eden Guest House, and parts of Mangwaneni near the Royal Kraal will be without power due to construction works under the Stonehenge depot.
Mankayane Town, the local hospital, government offices and nearby areas will be affected by underground cable installation. Madlangempisi, including Khuphuka kaBen and Njojane, will undergo a closing span procedure, while Dzanyana Primary and Ensuka areas are scheduled for a line uprate.
Matsapha residents in and around Achievers Primary School, Etandla Hammer Mill and Ludzeludze Complex will also experience disruptions. In Big Bend, Goboyane, Mahlabaneni, US Distillers and Mkhalamfene are listed for closing span maintenance. Parts of Manzini—particularly Ngwazini, Nkiliji, and Bhekinkosi—are expected to undergo transformer upgrades.
Additional works will take place in Mbabane Industrial Site, including B3, Mbabane Burial, government facilities, and Nurses Quarters. Elangeni’s Nkhanini area is also on the list for project-related outages.
EEC has reminded members of the public to treat all electrical infrastructure as live during the period and has apologised for the inconvenience caused by the necessary upgrades and maintenance.
