Simunye – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has urged Government, trade unions, and businesses to shift from confrontation to collaboration in a renewed effort to strengthen Eswatini’s economy and improve workers’ welfare.
Speaking at the Workers Day celebration hosted by the Federation of Eswatini Trade Unions (FESWATU) in Simunye on May 1, 2025, the Prime Minister called for a reset in the country’s industrial relations, describing the current tensions between labour and business as unnecessary and counterproductive.
He told the gathering that cooperation, not conflict, should define the relationship between employers and employees. “When one side suffers, we all suffer. When one side succeeds, we all must move forward,” said Dlamini.
The Prime Minister commended FESWATU for its peaceful approach to trade unionism, stating that its conduct reflects a deep understanding of the need for stability in the workplace and the broader economy.
Calling for greater transparency, mutual respect, and adherence to the rule of law, Dlamini said these values were key to building a productive labour market and tackling the country’s unemployment challenges.
He reiterated Government’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with both organised business and labour to foster decent working conditions, stimulate economic growth, and raise the living standards of all citizens.
Dlamini pointed to His Majesty’s Government’s vision of creating jobs, increasing productivity, and improving wages as core priorities. He also stressed the importance of a legislative framework that promotes fair labour practices and supports long-term development.
Cabinet members joined the Prime Minister at the event, as they did last year when attending TUCOSWA’s May Day celebration, reinforcing Government’s ongoing efforts to engage all labour stakeholders in building stronger social partnerships.
“Let us walk this path together—Government, employers, and employees—in a spirit of partnership and in pursuit of a better tomorrow,” Dlamini said.
