MBABANE – The Ministry of Health on Monday introduced two key policy documents aimed at improving access to basic health services and tackling staff shortages across Eswatini’s public health system.

The joint launch event, held in Mbabane, saw Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula introduce the third edition of the Essential Healthcare Package and the Human Resources for Health Strategic Plan 2025–2030.

Minister Matsebula said the two documents mark a critical shift in how health services will be delivered across Eswatini’s clinics and hospitals, with a renewed focus on ensuring every liSwati has access to quality care.

“This is a collective commitment to building a resilient and responsive health system that truly serves the people of Eswatini,” he said.

The Essential Healthcare Package outlines a set of priority services that will be made universally accessible, guided by the principles of affordability and quality. The updated package is expected to help standardise care across all levels of the public health system.

The Human Resources for Health Strategic Plan lays out a blueprint to address shortages of medical professionals and improve working conditions for existing staff. It also focuses on building a better system to manage and support health workers across the country.

“A well-equipped and adequately staffed workforce is the backbone of any healthcare system,” Matsebula said. “It is vital that we manage our health professionals through a system that is efficient, well-organised and well-resourced.”

He said the launch of both documents reflects Eswatini’s long-term investment in the health and well-being of its people, calling it “a significant milestone in our efforts to build a healthier nation.”
