Mbabane – After last Saturday’s primary elections, only 21 candidates annexed over 1 000 votes in the over 400 different Chiefdoms across the country.

Muntu Souza from Lugongolweni Inkhundla under Ka-Langa Umphakatsi bagged the highest votes across the country, an impressive 1 792. Worth mentioning is that the number of votes accumulate can vary according to that constituency’s population density and competition.

The ‘1 000 Club’ also include Bongani Mdluli who beat outgoing Madlangempisi Member of Parliament (MP) Sibusiso ‘Scorpion’Nxumalo in the Buhlebuyeza Chiefdom, Minister of Public Service and outgoing Maphalaleni MP Mabulala Maseko who canvassed 1 490 in his Chiefdom.

Police officer Sicelo ‘Khunga Nkhosi’ Dlamini bagged 1 693 in the Herefords Chiefdom under Mayiwane constituency while Minister of Agriculture and outgoing Pigg’s Peak MP Jabulani ‘Buy Cash’ Mabuza survived the primary elections’ biggest scare with 1 339 votes, beating former Pigg’s Peak Mayor and Premier League of Eswatini executive member Victor Rodriguez by just eight votes.

Incarcerated former Matsapha United director Sipho Shongwe’s son, Sifiso Shongwe got 1 062 votes at Kwaluseni Chiefdom to end the road for outgoing Kwaluseni MP Sibusiso ‘Mabhanisi’ Dlamini.  

Meanwhile, 584 710 Emaswati registered for the 2023 National Elections and the country will be heading for the decisive secondary elections on September 29.
