Acting Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, Jabulani Mabuza, launched the Ready Boards Project in the Khomba-so community, Vuvulane, Lubombo Region today, hailing it as a significant achievement in the Ministry’s rural electrification program. The project involves the installation of pre-wired, sustainable distribution systems known as ready boards, which require only earthing for protection. Approximately 90 households and 10 youth from Vuvulane Umphakatsi will benefit from this initiative.

Minister Mabuza noted that Khomba-so and several other communities have received financial support from the Rural Electrification Access Fund to establish grid electricity infrastructure. However, many community members lack the funds needed for house wiring installations. Addressing this issue, Minister Mabuza revealed that the Government, in line with His Majesty’s Speech from the Throne, has developed a model for installing distribution ready boards in households that lack the financial means for house wiring. He expressed his satisfaction in announcing that the Ministry is now prepared to commence the project.

Minister Mabuza shared that 250 distribution ready boards have already been procured for installation in houses in the Shiselweni Region. These boards are part of the Network Re-enforcement and Access Project, which is supported by the World Bank.

The Ministry has allocated a budget of E2 million from the Rural Electrification Access Fund to initiate the installation of ready boards in the Manzini, Hhohho, and Lubombo Regions. The project aims to empower qualified unemployed youth with electricity-related qualifications by offering them opportunities to install ready boards in deserving communities.
