Mafutseni – Princess Sakhizwe has cautioned the media to think carefully about what it publishes, saying its coverage plays an important role in shaping the narrative of the nation.
Speaking yesterday, Princess Sakhizwe said media reports were particularly important to people who are away from Eswatini and relied on social media to know what was happening back home.
“The media is very important in the narrative of the nation. It is important what you write and what you publish because a person who is away from home does not know what is happening here. They look at social media to see what is happening back home,” she said.
She said this was especially important when reporting on Umkhosi weMhlanga and the country’s cultural practices.
Princess Sakhizwe said the media and other media practitioners should take time to consider what they were putting out to the public before publishing their reports or posts.
“I ask the media to also think before posting. Think about what you are posting,” she said.
She said information published about Umhlanga did not only reach those attending the ceremony, but also EmaSwati and other people outside the country who followed the proceedings through social media.
