Mbabane- Thugs who broke into the headteacher’s office at Mpofu Methodist Primary School to steal school trip money consoled themselves with a lawnmower, tree cutting machine, iPad and some petty cash of less than E200. The incident is alleged to have occured on Sunday night of August, 1, 2026.
It is suspected that the thugs had targeted the headteacher’s office with the hope of hitting a jackpot since there was a school trip the following day. Even though the school has a hired security guard, the thugs are alleged to have broken in through a burglared door before entering the office, without being disturbed by the guard. It is suspected that the security guard was not on the premises when the break-in occured as he would have noticed the noise from the burglary .
The thugs ransacked the office but couldn’t find the money they were hoping for but ended up stealing anything they found in the office. The damage was discovered by the headteacher, Phindile Gama in the morning when she reported for duty and she quickly called the Buhleni police station.
Gama told Independent News that she suspects that the criminals were looking for money, since there was going to be a school trip the following day.
“They thought that the money was kept in the office but luckily for us, we had only had petty cash of less than E200. They then consoled themselves with a lawnmower, tree cutting machine and an iPad.. ” Gama narrated.
She added that the security guard was taken for questioning by the Buhleni police to explain how the thugs managed to steal under his guard. Gama mentioned that she suspects that the guard was not on the premises when the break-in occured and that the school will make it’s own investigation.
A police officer at the Buhleni Police station, who preferred anonymity confirmed that indeed there was a reported case of burglary and theft from Mpofu Methodist Primary School school and that they are still investigating the matter. The officer or the law adhered to the suspicion that the criminals were looking for money. The officer of the law said they are on the heals of the criminals but no one has been arrested yet.
Police Public Relations Officer Phindile Zwane confirmed that there was a case reported to the Buhleni Police Station of burglary and theft, that occured at Mpofu Methodist Primary School. Zwane said police are thoroughly investigating the case.
