Tests conducted declined as focus now on unwell, symptomatic patients

Mbabane: Minister of Health Lizzy Nkosi says the number of tests results received by the Ministry on daily bases have declined because of the new regulations which focuses on testing the symptomatic patients.

Speaking to this publication, Nkosi explained that the number of tests conducted by the health workers have declined mainly because they now focus on testing those who have symptoms so that they can receive treatment as soon as possible.

Nkosi said the objective of the COVID-19 response at this stage is to prevent further increase in loss of lives, which means looking out for those who are unwell and ensure they are tested early.

The daily tests results reported by the Ministry have noticeably declined, as of late, on average the number of tests conducted daily ranges from 100-150 while prior the testing capacity was up to 500-600 tests. The decline in the number of testing have seen the number of new confirmed cases declining as well.

As of September 22, the number of confirmed cases have increased to 5 307 with 25 new cases. The number of recoveries have also improved to 4 672 which can be translated to 88 percent recovery rate and that takes the number of active cases down to 504.

The COVID-19 death toll has increased to 106.
