MBABANE – A joint crime suppression operation conducted by the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) and community police structures in Mbabane resulted in the arrest of 47 suspects for various offences.
According to a police report, the operation was carried out on May 29, 2026, with the participation of community police members from Msunduza, Macobolwane, Corporation, Mncitsini, Mangwaneni and Mahwalala Zones 1 to 6. Police said the initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and improve public safety within the capital city.
According to the report, the suspects were arrested for a range of offences, including contravening the Liquor Act and the Crimes Act, possession of dangerous weapons, drinking alcohol in public places, loitering in the city at night without lawful purpose, failing to comply with permit requirements and assault-related offences.
Police further revealed that some of the individuals arrested during the operation were on the Mbabane Police Station’s wanted list and had been sought in connection with various criminal matters.
The operation focused on crime-prone areas within the city centre and was aimed at disrupting criminal activities while enhancing cooperation between law enforcement authorities and local communities.
Police described the operation as successful, highlighting the important role played by community police members in supporting efforts to maintain law and order. The collaboration, they said, demonstrates the value of partnerships between police and residents in addressing crime and improving security.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to continuing similar operations across the city and urged members of the public to work closely with police by reporting criminal activities and providing information that may assist in the prevention and detection of crime.
