Mbabane: Manzini Regional Administrator (RA), Chief Gija Dlamini stated that the incumbent land dispute between the LaMgabhi and Luyengweni chiefdoms has been hauled before the Ludzidzini Councils for the fourth time.
The bone of contention is the Mhlabubovu area, which was ruled to be under the LaMgabhi chiefdom under the leadership of the late Chief Mpini and then his successor, Chief Ndzimanye II, who is also late.
The last time the matter was brought before the council members was in 2016 and was ruled in like manner. Notwithstanding, the Luyengweni chiefdom has allegedly continued to allocate land to outsiders, something which has provoked the ire of the LaMgabhi residents.
The longstanding land dispute recently made headlines after ex-LaMgabhi Member of Parliament and Minister of Public Works and Transport, Ntuthuko Dlamini was arrested for shooting and killing two men from the Luyengweni chief’s inner council. With other people the two men had gathered at Mhlabubovu to allegedly allocate a piece of land to someone.
It is alleged that over 23 homesteads were illegally allocated pieces of land at Mhlabubovu and it is left to be seen what will be done to them. The RA mentioned that as to whether the homesteads in question would be relocated to the Luyengweni chiefdom or left under LaMgabhi was something to be yet determined and until then he can end there.
