Berlin, Germany – Zimbabwe gained attention at ITB Berlin 2026 in Germany as the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry led a strong delegation. Minister Hon Barbara Rwodzi began the day touring the Zimbabwe Stand, engaging with co-exhibitors to present a cohesive Experience Zimbabwe brand before participating in high-level discussions.
A heritage-focused meeting with UNESCO Director Peter Warren highlighted Great Zimbabwe and Khami Ruins, marking 40 years as World Heritage Sites and reinforcing Zimbabwe’s cultural tourism profile. Marketing talks with CNN International Commercial explored ways to boost the country’s global visibility, while engagements targeting the Benelux region and updates from Africa Magazine supported the rollout of a German-language publication to expand reach in German-speaking markets.
Minister Rwodzi also met with Mr Rohan Vos, owner of Rovos Rail, which operates luxury trains from South Africa to Victoria Falls. Discussions included new routes from South Africa through Beitbridge to Great Zimbabwe and onward to Malawi and Mozambique, as well as a corridor connecting South Africa, Victoria Falls, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Visa facilitation was addressed, with the Minister assuring that the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Ministry of Tourism, is reviewing potential visa exemptions to improve travel ease and competitiveness.
Further strategic talks with Amadeus for Destinations focused on using data-driven approaches to support tourism growth. Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Germany, Her Excellency Alice Mashingaidze, and the CEO of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Dr George Manyaya, were also present.
