MBABANE – The Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund has expressed shock and dismay over the violent incidents during the Ingwenyama Cup match between Mbabane Highlanders and Nsingizini Hotspurs at the Mavuso Trade Fair.
In a public statement, the Fund said, “The Fund unequivocally condemns the unsporting conduct displayed by teams and the barbaric behaviour exhibited during the match, including violence, pitch invasion, and the intimidation of match officials. Such actions have no place in football, Swati culture, or our society, and they undermine the very essence of the beautiful game as a unifying and nation building force.”
SMVAF offered an apology to key stakeholders, stating, “SMVAF sincerely apologises to Their Majesties, Cabinet, Government authorities, football stakeholders, and the public at large for the distress, embarrassment, safety, and security concerns caused by these events.”
The Fund noted that the Ingwenyama Cup is built on respect, fair play, safety, and dignity in line with FIFA principles. “These values are non negotiable,” the statement read. SMVAF stressed that ongoing sponsorship of the tournament will be conditional on ensuring the safety and security of the public, participants, officials, and their property.
The Fund is engaging with football authorities and security agencies to implement corrective measures, ensure accountability, and prevent similar incidents in the future. “Football must be enjoyed without fear, intimidation, or threat to life and property. SMVAF will not compromise on safety, discipline, or fair play,” the statement concluded.
