Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Senator Pholile Shakantu, Eswatini’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is attending the African Union Executive Council meeting taking place from February 11 to 12, 2023, ahead of the continental body’s annual summit of Heads of State and Government.
The African Union will hold its Heads of State and Government Summit from February 14 to 15, where leaders from member states are expected to deliberate on key issues affecting the continent.
Shakantu is representing the Kingdom of Eswatini at the Executive Council, a body comprising Ministers of Foreign Affairs or other designated ministers from AU member states. The council is tasked with formulating and reviewing policies that will be presented for consideration at the summit.
Her presence at the meeting places Eswatini at the centre of preparatory discussions that shape the agenda for heads of state. Matters on the table include peace and security across the continent, economic development and broader strategies aimed at addressing Africa’s shared challenges.
The Executive Council’s deliberations are expected to guide the programme of the summit, ensuring coordinated planning and collective responses among member states as African leaders gather later in the week.
