MADLANGEMPISI – Eswatini musician Siyabonga Magagula, popularly known as TheAfricanDon SZ, is set to release a new single titled Aba Understand featuring Xavage and Elo Quent on 13 February at midnight.
The song, recorded and produced within Eswatini, centres on themes of love, loyalty and valuing one’s partner while resisting gossip, negativity and outside pressure that often affect relationships. According to the artist, the track speaks directly to couples navigating public opinion and unsolicited advice.
“This record is inspired by love and appreciating your partner overall. Its message is about loving your partner and not allowing gossip and trash talk to ruin what you guys have,” said TheAfricanDon.
The collaboration brings together three creatives who grew up in the same neighbourhood, a connection that has influenced their musical chemistry and frequent collaborations.
“Me, Quent and Xavage, we’re from the same neighborhood, which makes us link up very often. Since we’re all creatives, we’ve had a lot of music in the vault which never saw the light. This time around I wanted to do things differently and drop the song because the more it stays in the vault, the more I forget about it. Who knows, maybe I’m sleeping on a certified hit,” he shared.
Aba Understand blends Afrobeat and R and B with subtle rap elements, moving smoothly between SiSwati and English. The sound reflects both modern influences and local identity.
“This masterpiece is an infusion of Afrobeat and RNB vibes with a touch of raps. The rhyme scheme is perfectly layered with pure Swati lyrics and a little bit of English,” he explained.
The title itself speaks to the idea that love journeys are personal and often misunderstood by outsiders.
“This term means that people will never understand one’s love journey. As we say in siSwati, ‘talababili atingenwa’. The song raises awareness about people who speak on other people’s affairs and the damage lies and gossip can cause,” said TheAfricanDon.
Known for his adaptability, TheAfricanDon SZ has transitioned from being a full time rapper to exploring singing, music production and songwriting as part of his growth in the industry.
“For someone who started as a full time rapper, my journey has shifted drastically. Now I’m more into singing and being involved behind the scenes as a music producer and songwriter, which proves my versatility,” he said.
