Mbabane: Members of the Parliament have been capacitated on holding parliament sessions virtually as a mean to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Speaking during the workshop held at Royal Villas on Wednesday, Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini said the advent of COVID-19 has necessitated the use of technology to hold virtual meetings and parliament cannot be left behind. The workshop was aimed at capacitating Members of Parliament to hold parliament sessions virtually.

Dlamini said the use of technological innovation will enable Parliament to observe safety measures and reduce the spread of COVID-19 within the august institution by holding parliamentary sittings virtually. Dlamini added that using technological platforms, Parliamentarians will be able to execute their duties of representation, law making and oversight. He said this technological are presented by the fourth industrial revolution.

Speaker in the House of Assembly Petros Mavimbela said coronavirus presented such an opportunity to use technology of the Zoom platform. Mavimbela said as Parliamentarians they had to adapt to change and think outside the box by embracing information technology in order to continue doing business.
