Police in Pigg’s Peak have arrested and charged a 67-year-old man from Mvembili in connection with the murder of a 32-year-old woman from the same area.
Authorities say the incident occurred on February 2, 2026, at around 1745 hours, when the victim was found dead inside her home in Mvembili. She had two gunshot wounds to the head and was lying in a pool of blood.
According to information gathered, the suspect and the victim were well acquainted. On the day of the murder, the man reportedly went to a local drinking spot in search of the woman but could not find her. He eventually located her at her parental homestead, where she was with her mother. The mother left for an errand, leaving the two alone. It is believed that an argument ensued, during which the suspect allegedly shot the woman twice in the head before fleeing the scene. The victim’s mother later discovered her daughter and alerted the community.
Early on February 3, at about 0300 hours, the suspect sought help at a homestead for injuries he sustained while fleeing. The homeowner recognized him and raised an alarm, prompting the suspect to run. Residents conducted a search and found him hiding in the bushes of Mvembili. Police were contacted immediately and arrested the suspect.
Investigation is ongoing, and the man is scheduled to appear before Pigg’s Peak Magistrates Court on February 4, 2026.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service commended the Mvembili community for their active role in the arrest, noting that “#PartnershipPolicing is the key factor in curbing crime in our communities.”
