Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has announced the full takeover of the Mozambique LNG Project in Afungi, a major development in the region that is being closely followed in Eswatini due to its potential impact on southern Africa’s energy security and economic cooperation.
The declaration was made on Wednesday in Afungi, Cabo Delgado, marking what the Mozambican government described as a new phase of confidence, security and hope for the country’s future. The Mozambique LNG Project carries an estimated investment value of about 15.4 billion United States dollars.
Mozambique LNG is regarded as one of the largest liquefied natural gas projects on the African continent. According to the Presidency, the project has a direct bearing on job creation, the strengthening of Mozambican businesses, youth skills development and the expansion of the national economy, including surrounding local communities.
