Mbabane – The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) has begun developing a Strategic Plan to guide its operations over the next five years, with support from its technical partners, the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) and the African Organisation for English Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E).
Last week, technical experts from IDI and AFROSAI-E worked alongside a select OAG team to draft the strategy. Staff members were also consulted and invited to provide input on the plan.
To further refine the strategy, other stakeholders will be engaged, including Parliamentarians from the Public Accounts Committee, Auditees, cooperating partners, Civil Society Organisations, and Central Government Ministries.
The experts met Minister for Finance Neal Rijkenberg, who welcomed them and expressed support for the OAG Strategic Plan. He said the country needed a strong institution to ensure accountability of public funds and that having the strategy in place would enable the OAG to deliver its mandate to emaSwati.
Auditor-General Timothy Matsebula thanked the Minister for his continued support and acknowledged the IDI and AFROSAI-E team for their ongoing capacity support.
The OAG Strategic Plan is expected to be finalised at the start of the next government fiscal year. It will outline the strategic direction for all organisational areas that govern the operations of a Supreme Audit Institution.
