Kampala – Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has accused the Ugandan military of murdering several of his supporters while it constantly hunts him down too amidst the election results.

Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, was announced as the runner-up to Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni (81) in the January 15 presidential elections, securing a 25% vote count.

Wine has said Museveni’s administration, after winning a landslide 72% victory, wants him either dead or alive on trumped-up charges. He is reportedly in hiding, and his wife is recovering in hospital after an alleged military raid of their home in the capital over the weekend.

“Museveni’s criminal son is still looking for me and issuing threats to harm me,” he posted on platform X.

“Thankfully, our people are still keeping me safe. My wife is still recovering from the trauma of an overnight raid and assault. Thousands of our people have been violently arrested and detained. My home is still surrounded by the military. Several of our supporters have been murdered in cold blood,” he said.

The Uganda elections faced criticism from neighbouring countries and the globe after the government ordered an internet shut-down. The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights condemned condemned it. The internet was shut-down on the eve of the general elections on 15 January 2026.

This is in contrast to the Uganda Electoral Commission and the joint AU–COMESA–IGAD Election Observation Mission, both of which declared that the elections were conducted in an orderly manner.

Wine took his his X account early on Mondya releasing what screenshots bearing the name of the army leader Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni’s son, who stated that the army was responding to instructions to bring Wine “dead or alive” and called him “cowardly” while denying reports that soldiers abused his wife.

“We stopped our search for Kabobi for 24 hours on the instructions of the Commander-In-Chief… Now our troops have orders to bring him in dead or alive!” the army chief said.

Wine has contested the results and has accused Museveni of ballot stuffing. He has stated that he would not legally challenge the election results in the Ugandan courts, unlike in 2021 when he lost to Museveni, because he lacks confidence in any judicial outcome.

While Wine continuously rallies his supporters to protest peacefully the election results from his undisclosed hideout, Museveni has allegedly escalated his search from branding them terrorists who wanted to overturn the results violently. Bobi Wine vowed to challenge Museveni, who ‘declared himself the winner at gunpoint’ while having ordered the shutdown of the internet.

“We remain committed to freeing our nation from these savage criminals. We remain hopeful that the people of Uganda will have the last laugh. ‘Deep in my heart, I do believe, WE SHALL OVERCOME some day,’ he said.
