Shanghai – The National Consumer Commission has issued a recall for the MG3 following reports of a safety defect affecting the car’s seats.
According to the commission, MG’s parent company, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC Motor), informed authorities that “inertia forces during a collision may cause the driver’s seat cushion frame to contact the seat adjustment unlocking mechanism. This could result in minor movement of the seat along its rail, increasing the risk of injury.”
The recall affects 209 vehicles sold locally from 30 August 2025. Vehicle owners are urged to take their cars to the nearest authorised MG dealership for inspection and corrective work, which will be provided at no cost.
The MG3 line-up, which made a notable appearance at the Simola Hillclimb last year, includes four models. Three are powered by a normally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 81kW and 142Nm, while the fourth is a 1.5-litre hybrid delivering a combined 155kW and 425Nm.
Pricing for the range starts at R269 900 for the base 1.5 Comfort manual and rises to R469 500 for the Hybrid+ Luxury model.
