Simunye – Police have arrested three men in connection with the theft of building materials at a construction site in the Hlane area. The suspects, aged 29, 23 and 64, are from Khuphuka and Hlane and were arrested on January 20 2026 at about 1400 hours.
The case was reported on the morning of January 20 after it was discovered that 48 boxes of ceramic gold tiles had been stolen during the night. The theft is believed to have taken place on January 19 2026 at around 2330 hours at an unfinished structure in Hlane. The stolen tiles are valued at E40 416.
Following the report, police launched a brief but intensive investigation which led to the identification and arrest of the suspects later the same day. Information gathered by investigators shows that the suspects entered the unfinished building and removed the 48 boxes of tiles before arranging transport to the Khuphuka area.
Police further established that a van was hired from the 64 year old suspect to move the stolen tiles from the construction site to Khuphuka. All the stolen items were recovered during the arrests.
The three suspects appeared before the Simunye Magistrate’s Court on January 21 2026. They were remanded in custody until January 22 2026 for sentencing.
