The Royal Eswatini Police Service has opened an inquest into the death of a 14 year old boy from the kaShoba area following a shooting incident in Siteki.
According to police, the incident occurred on 7 January 2026 at around 10am. Preliminary information indicates that the boy was inside a motor vehicle when he handled a shotgun belonging to his parent. The firearm is reported to have discharged accidentally, striking him in the abdomen.
The teenager sustained a single gunshot wound and was rushed to Good Shepherd Hospital for medical attention. He was certified dead on arrival.
Police said an inquest docket has been opened to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The matter is being handled by Siteki police as investigations continue.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service has again urged emaSwati who are licensed firearm owners to strictly comply with firearm safe keeping requirements in line with the Arms and Ammunition Act, warning that failure to do so can lead to tragic consequences.
