Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Ghana international Antoine Semenyo, adding the forward to their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The Premier League champions announced the deal on Friday, confirming that the 25 year old attacker has joined from Bournemouth and will wear the number 42 shirt at the Etihad Stadium. The move was completed during the current winter transfer window as City continue to strengthen their squad for domestic and European competitions.

Semenyo has signed a contract that runs until June 2031, with the transfer valued at 73.7 million euros including bonuses. Bournemouth are set to retain a 10 percent sell on clause on any future profit from the player.

The Ghanaian forward is known for his pace, strength and direct style of play, with the ability to operate across the front line. Manchester City believe his versatility will add depth to Pep Guardiola’s attacking options as the club targets further success in England and in Europe.

Speaking after the announcement, Semenyo explained the personal meaning behind his choice of shirt number, saying it was linked to the early stages of his professional career.

He said number 42 was the first shirt number he wore after signing his initial professional contract at Bristol City and it has remained special to him ever since, adding that returning to it felt like reconnecting with where his journey began.
