Mbabane – A 28-year-old woman from Matsapha named Winile Dlamini was charged with breaking Section 89 (1) of the Road Traffic Act No. 6 of 2007 as read with Section 122 (7) of the same Act at the Mbabane Magistrates Court.
According to the charge sheet, on Christmas Eve at about 1855 hours, she knocked down a three-year-old minor pedestrian while driving a BMW sedan in Ezulwini, Buka, along the D 36 public road. The minor sustained minor injuries and was treated and discharged by 977 personnel at the scene.
She’s accused of driving without due care, disregarding a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway, failing to apply brakes on time, and failing to avoid an accident a reasonable driver would have avoided.
She pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to E800 fine or six months’ imprisonment. Meanwhile, another driver, Bhekumuzi Dlamini, 45, of Ezulwini, was also charged under the same act.
At or near Satellite along the D36 public road on January 1, 2026, at about 4:27 a.m., Dlamini was arrested for driving a Toyota sedan while drunk or under the influence of a drug that has a narcotic effect. His alcohol reading was 0.61 mg/l, above the legal limit. The accused being arraigned pleaded guilty and was sentenced to pay E1200 fine or spend eight months in prison.
