Mbabane – A female driver survived a road accident in Lozitha when another motor vehicle pounced on her vehicle in a collision.
According to court documents, Temavuno Jele of Nhlambeni was driving a Toyota Auris sedan near Lozitha on Jabhane public road on January 2, 2026, when Africa Collen, a Liswati male adult, 42, of Mbekelweni, collided with her vehicle. The timing was approximately 1730 hours.
Collen was driving a VW Golf sedan. Court documents state that he was driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs having a narcotic effect. He was subsequently charged with two counts. Count one was for drunken driving. His alcohol reading was 0.60 mg/l. Count two was for causing the head-on collision on the same spot.
According to the charge sheet, he unlawfully and negligently drove the said motor vehicle to collide with Jele’s. The charge sheet states that:
- He was driving at an unreasonable speed, overtaking on a solid line, a blind rise and a bend;
- he failed to apply brakes on time, and
- failed to avoid an accident that a reasonable driver would have avoided.
Jele sustained a fracture on her right leg, while three of her passengers sustained minor injuries. They were treated and discharged at the hospital.
The accused was self-represented and pleaded guilty to the charges. He was sentenced to a E1200 fine or 8 months for count one and E800 or 6 months imprisonment for count two, sentences which run consecutively.
