New Delhi – The Government of India has urged its citizens to avoid non essential travel to Venezuela following a deterioration in the country’s security and political situation.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced on January 3, 2026, that Indian nationals should stay away from Venezuela unless travel is absolutely necessary. The advisory applies to all Indian citizens, including those travelling for business, employment or personal reasons.
For Indians already in Venezuela, the ministry advised strict caution, limited movement and constant communication with the Indian Embassy in Caracas. Nationals were directed to reach the embassy through the official email address cons.caracas@mea.gov.in or the emergency contact number +58 412 958 4288, which also supports WhatsApp calls.
A day later, on January 4, 2026, the Indian government issued a further statement expressing concern over the unfolding situation in Venezuela. New Delhi said it was monitoring developments and reiterated its position on the protection of civilians and the importance of regional stability.
India also called on all parties involved in the Venezuelan situation to pursue peaceful solutions through dialogue to prevent further instability. The Indian Embassy in Caracas confirmed it remains in contact with members of the Indian community and will continue to offer assistance where required.
