Beijing – China has reacted strongly to the United States military action in Venezuela, describing the operation as a violation of international law and an attack on the sovereignty of a UN member state.
Speaking through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Beijing said it was shocked by Washington’s use of force against Venezuela and the action taken against President Nicolás Maduro. The statement followed confirmation by US authorities that their forces carried out strikes in Venezuela and took the country’s leader into custody.
China said the operation took place in Venezuela and warned that the move threatens peace and security across Latin America and the Caribbean. The remarks come amid growing global concern over the consequences of the US intervention and the widening diplomatic fallout.
According to the Chinese government, such actions undermine the principles of international law and interfere with the internal affairs of a sovereign nation. Beijing said it firmly opposes what it described as hegemonic conduct that risks destabilising the region.
China called on the United States to respect international law and adhere to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, urging Washington to stop actions that violate the sovereignty and security of other countries.
