Johannesburg – Suzuki Auto South Africa has confirmed that the upcoming Victoris will be rebranded as the Across for the local market. The new model, expected to launch next year, will serve as Suzuki’s flagship vehicle, sitting above the Grand Vitara in the lineup.

While the Across nameplate is already used in Europe for a rebadged version of the Toyota RAV4, South African buyers will see the Across as a rebadged Suzuki Victoris, which made its debut in India in September. The Victoris, built by Maruti Suzuki, will be South Africa’s version of this international SUV, though it differs from the European Across, which is based on the Toyota RAV4.

The Victoris will offer both petrol and hybrid powertrains. It is built on Suzuki’s Global C platform, which is shared with the Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser. The vehicle measures 4,360 mm in length, 1,655 mm in height, and 1,795 mm in width, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase. This makes it 15 mm taller and 10 mm wider than the Grand Vitara.

For power, the Victoris will be available with two engine options. The standard petrol version features a 1.5-litre engine producing 76 kW and 139 Nm, paired with either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. An optional AllGrip all-wheel drive system will be available with the automatic. The hybrid model combines a 1.5-litre combustion engine with an electric motor, producing a combined 68 kW and 141 Nm, with power sent to the front wheels via a CVT.

The Victoris will come with various high-tech features, including LED headlights, a digital instrument cluster, and up to 18-inch alloy wheels. Depending on the trim level, it will offer a host of safety and driver assistance features, such as a 360-degree camera, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring.

While the Indian version is priced between Rs 1,049,900 and Rs 1,998,900 (approximately R194,525 to R370,355), the South African version is expected to be priced higher when it arrives in 2026. Once available in the Kingdom of Eswatini, the vehicle will be sold at Mbabane Motors in Mbabane. Suzuki South Africa has yet to confirm the final pricing and specifications for the local market, but full details will be released in the new year.
